Our Co-op

Curzon is a not-for-profit co-operative preschool, which means we require and thrive on parental involvement. We rely on student registration and the support of fundraising activities to maintain our operations and parental involvement is fundamental to the school's philosophy and administration.
Being a co-op means the school is directly overseen by an elected parent Executive committee – that means you can play an important role in decisions about the school’s curriculum and governance. Parents all share responsibilities between the different co-op jobs within the school to help support our teachers as well as the school.
A Co-operative school environment is perfect for parents who want to be actively involved in their children's first school experience and allow them to contribute their time and abilities to a small community of families. From the parents point of view the benefits of a co-op is being able to build a community and meet other parents at the school, getting to know the teachers better and being able to create stronger ties and commitment to the school. From a child's perspective having their parents involved in their school also brings them the benefit of sharing life experiences with their parents, having positive linkages between school life and home life and not to mention the kids love seeing their parents around school and getting involved especially on duty days!

Parent involvement
Parents play a key role in the running of the school by accepting the following shared responsibilities:
- Duty Days: Duty days are a key component of this philosophy. Each family gets one duty day every month or so, in which a “duty parent” participates in the day’s activities. The “duty child” gets the thrill of being special for a day, and the pride of seeing their parent involved in their learning. It’s just one of the highlights of our program and one of the things that sets us apart from other preschool experiences
- Participation in 2- general meetings per year.
- Responsible for one of our parent co-op jobs.
- Support in school fundraising activities
